We recite selections from the teachings found in the "Three-Fold Lotus Sutra." They were the teachings of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, a human being who experienced life, found enlightenment, and shared it with others.

The teachings were orally handed down from disciple to disciple after the death of Shakyamuni Buddha until they were transcribed in sutras, one of which is "The Three-Fold Lotus Sutra."

The Founders of Reiyukai, Mr. Kakutaro Kubo and Mrs. Kimi Kotani, selected portions from that sutra and made a daily meditation book for us called "The Blue Sutra." They made the selections based on their own rigorous practice and sincere wish to compile something that all lay people could use to learn and understand the value of Shakyamuni's teachings.

We are encouraged to recite the Blue Sutra as a form of meditation, discipline, and appreciation for all things.
